Abstract

The educational project, at all levels, in the United States is heavily influenced by systemic whiteness and maintained through cultural practices that normalize values of whiteness. Using Critical Race Theory and Critical whiteness Studies as a theoretical framework with the method of portraiture, I examined the experience of one white pre-service teacher and how her formative experiences coupled with her experience at an institution of higher education created, maintained, and gave her tools for perpetuating whiteness.
